Upcoming Dates
Mrs. Smith’s Scholars
September 8, 2015
Starting September 14 I will send home weekly homework packet on
Monday that will be due on Friday. Most of the homework will involve
reading for 20 minutes a night. Students who read 20 minutes or
more a night make faster progress in reading. Students may read
books from home, library books, or if you need books at home let me
know and I can let students borrow books.
Students may bring a fruit, vegetable, or yogurt for snack every day.
They may also keep a water bottle on their desk. Our class is a nut
free zone so please do not send in any peanut butter or nut products.
Thank you.
What we are covering in class…..
Reading- We are reading Fables. The students are doing very well
on comparing and contrasting, summarizing the plot, and
identifying characters and setting. They will be taking
assessments this week.
Math- We are using the strategy of doubles and doubles plus one
in addition to add in fluency in answering problems.
Science- Students are keeping a plant log charting the progress
of their plants. They are also doing an experiment to see whether
a plant grows better with light or without. Also the are comparing
a plant with soil and no soil.
Word Work- Students will write words using their knowledge of
long and short vowel sounds.
Writing- Students will write a paragraph on topic with complete
sentences.
The classroom helper sheet
went home last week. If
you would like to be a
classroom helper and did
not get a sheet please let
me know. I would also
love any parent helpers
who would like to come in
at 3:15 pm and be banker
once a week. The October
Helper Sheet is coming
home today with anyone
who signed up already.
Dates are flexible and can
be changed. Please e-mail
me if you can’t come.
September 14 – Weekly
Homework will start
October 15 and 20th
Parent Conferences. If
you have not signed up
please contact me to
choose a date and time.
Reminders will go home
ahead of time.
Notes from the teacher:
Look for Yeah! Slips on Friday. That means your
child stayed on green all week. If your child brings
it home please celebrate by extra hugs, attention,
and praise.
