Course Description: The goal of Physics is to explain on a fundamental level how our environment behaves the
way it does. The take home message: all nature can be described by a few “simple” rules (or laws) and the laws of
Physics underlie the motion and behavior of everything around us. In addition, hopefully it will excite the students
about the physics in the world around them.

Classroom Expectations:

Responsibility
o Be prepared with your daily materials and be on time.
o Follow directions the first time they are given.
 Respect
o Treat others the way you’d prefer to be treated.
o Use appropriate words, tone, and voice level.
 Safety
o Ask for help when confused
o Follow all saftey guidelines when participating in the laboratory.
o Keep hands and objects to yourselves
Grading:



70% is comprised of MAJOR GRADES. This includes but is not limited to tests, projects, and lab reports.
30% is comprised of DAILY GRADES. This includes but is not limited to quizzes (double daily), practice
work, writing assignments, and notebook check.
Extra credit may be offered to the entire class at various times during a grading period.
Classroom Policies:
LATE WORK:
Minor Grades (Daily Work)

On the due date the students may receive up to 100 % credit for each assignment.

After the due date and through the 3rd school day following the due date the student may
receive up to 70% credit for each assignment.

After the 3rd day and prior to the last school day of each 3 week grading period the student
may receive up to 50% for each assignment.
Major Grades (Tests)

Students must make-up any test prior to the next test being administered.
Major Grades (Projects)

Projects are due the school day a student returns from an absence.

Late projects follow the minor grades policy.
MAKE-UP WORK: MAKEUP WORK IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!!!!!!! If you are absent, you to check your
assignments online – these are posted on my website under the Did I Miss Something? When you return to
school, if you need any handouts, please see me. I expect the makeup work to be done within the time allotted
by CISD guidelines, which states that students get a class day per excused absence to submit the assignments.
Makeup quizzes, labs, and tests can be done before or after school, and sometimes during class – depending on
what is happening in class that particular day. Be sure to let me know when you are going to be here so that
there is not a conflict with my schedule. If you can’t make the scheduled time, please let me know so that I am
not left waiting and wondering where you are – that is only common courtesy.
RE-TEST: Students are allowed ONE re-test per grading period on the exam of their choice to achieve a
maximum score of 85% to replace the old score. Tutorials are required before the re-test exam.
ELECTRONICS: On occasion the use of personal electronics are needed or permitted at the teacher's
discretion. It will be very clear when electronic devices can be utilized by the students. If the devices are out
and permission is not granted, first infraction will result in a warning, second infraction will result in a referral.
When permission is granted, the student can only listen to music and have only one ear-bud in the ear. Music
must not disturb other students.
CHEATING/PLAGIARISM
o Cheating on a test or assignment will result in a grade of zero for all individuals involved.
o Data for lab reports must be taken during lab and NOT COPIED afterwards. Each student is
responsible their own lab reports unless stated otherwise by the teacher.
o When research is done, all outside sources must be cited and written in their words (no copying). If
caught plagiarizing a zero will be given for the assignment.
TARDIES AND CLASSROOM TIME:
The school policy on tardies will be enforced. Any work from other courses should left for another time and place.
The 3rd tardy results in an automatic referral and will start over weekly. ONLY PHYSICS IN PHYSICS!
Please feel free to contact me anytime. Email is a great (and fast) way to catch me during the day. My personal
email is gmillhouse@conroeisd.net. However, I will return phone calls during conference or at the end of the day. I
look forward to a great school year with everyone of you!!!
I have read and I understand the classroom policies and procedures explained above:
