The Emancipation Proclamation 54th Massachusetts The Underground Railroad The abolition movement The Fugitive Slave Law The role of economics and slavery The Underground Railroad Slave Codes 4 Objectives: The American Civil War affected African slaves in America? How did African Americans support the Civil War? What did the Emancipation Proclamation mean to ex-slaves? What role did economics play in the Civil War? 5 Procedure: The students will participate in a Powerpoint demonstration by the teacher on Roots. The Students will take notes on a question sheet provided by the teacher on the Powerpoint presentation and movie segment presented today. The students will view episode 6. 6 The students will review the purpose and affect the Emancipation Proclamation had on ex-slaves. The students will examine the development of the Klu Klux Klan. Students will review the definition of economics. They will relate the economic system down south to slavery. 7 Motivation: What do you think this political cartoon is saying? Evaluation: They will answer 2 out of 3 of the following questions with 80% accuracy in a written or oral quiz: How did the Klu Klux Klan terrorize exslaves? Explain why they terrorized them. 8 Why did Abraham Lincoln have the Emancipation Proclamation passed? Was the proclamation successful? Explain your answer.
