ECE Capstone 2013-2014 Faculty Advisor: Narayan Mandayam Technical Advisor: Ivan Seskar Team: Parth Patel, Nikunj Shah, Hiren Patel Project: Resonance Based Wireless Power Transfer Abstract This Project focuses on Wireless Power Transfer System, which allows transferring wireless energy with spatial freedom. We have researched and modeled the entire Wireless Power Transfer System and its components. System efficiency is the main goal of this project. In the design process all factors that impact the system efficiency have been considered and analyzed carefully. We have used a cellular phone as our load model. Load model is considered to determine the size of the receiving coil. The concept of resonance between two objects is the key to this project. Also, system component were designed from basic electrical elements. At high frequencies, impedance is frequency, distance and load dependent. It is very important to have impedance matching network in order to achieve resonance and make the system efficient. Hence impedance matching in the receiver as well as the transmitter chains was taken into consideration. We have successfully modeled the system and its components and tested each component separately.
