Tartuffe Performance Project Choose a scene from the play to bring “onto its feet” and perform for the class. You may choose to do a live performance, or shoot a high-quality video to show. This is a summative project and reflects your understanding, creativity, and teamwork. Remember that at its heart, Tartuffe is a comedic play (“French farce”) and the delivery of the scene should be intentionally humorous, or at least lighter in feel than a drama or tragedy. Think TV sitcom! You may choose carefully who you work with, but each person must have a performing role. Most scenes in Tartuffe contain 2-3 characters on the stage at once, but there are some exceptions. Once you decide on scene, follow these steps to complete the project: 1. Individually, type up your responses for your Character Report 2. Individually do 2 character costume drawings. a. Come up with a “dream costume” if money and resources were no object. Draw and label the parts of the costume. b. Come up with your “real costume”. Put together a drawing or photo of what you will really wear as your costume for the performance. Creatively use things you have. 3. As a group, create your COMPANY PROMPTBOOK: 1. Company Report 2. Retyped or photocopied portion of the script with added stage directions for entrances, exits, movements, and anything you added, updated, or changed from the original. 3. Individual Character Reports 4. Costume drawings 5. Illustration of the set as you would like it to be. 4. As a group, REHEARSE, REHEARSE, REHEARSE! Gather props, costume elements, and finalize your portfolio before the due date. Memorizing lines is encourage but not required. Be prepared! PROMPTBOOK DUE DATE: PERFORMANCE DATE: (100 points total for the performance and portfolio) Your grade will be based on careful reading and rehearsal, understanding of characters, understanding of plot, understanding of language, ability to use language to portray character, well-planned movements, well-planned use of props and costumes, and anything extra you add to the production.
