First Grade News October 14, 2013 Important Dates: October 21 – report card/conferences ( October 25 – Fall Festival Students can wear a costume to school on Friday. First Grade is asking for donations for our “Cookie” walk booth. Please send a Complete Package of store bought Cookies by Wednesday, October 23. This weeks concepts: Reading: Comprehension: summarize Phonics: short /e/ Spelling words for the week are short /e/ words: leg, beg, men, hen, let, get, bend, sled, no, some High frequency words: no, some, of, who Math: students will add and subtract problems to 10, and identify related number sentences as fact families. Science: Students will understand that the forms of energy: light, sound, and heat are important in everyday life. HELP YOUR CHILD BE A READER Reading tip Encourage Questions When you are reading a book together encourage your child to ask questions about the story, and ask them yourself.
