I am Rezwana Islam. I was born and raised in Bangladesh. I came to LaGuardia Community College as a foreign student. My aim in life is teaching so I took elementary education as my major. I have taken forty five credits so far. The courses I have been taking are going to be helpful for my future profession. Besides study I have an interest in traveling, watching movies, collecting souvenirs, and cooking. My hobby is reading story books. The utmost goal in my life is to helping people in need. No matter how much money I will make I will always contribute to those who really can use some help. As a human being I will not live forever but I will leave behind some good work and that’s a promise to me. The courses I have taken relate to my career interest a great deal. As a foreign student I had a very little knowledge about U.S. history, culture, and tradition. The courses I have taken such as: Sociology, Anthropology, Western Civilization boosted my knowledge about various subjects. As a teacher I have to have a little bit of knowledge about everything so that I can explain any sorts of questions that may pop up in my students mind. I have also taken some Science courses such as: Mathematics, and Biology which will help me to be a Science teacher. I have improved my writing skills by taking English courses. Since English is my second language I was worried about being a teacher in the United States but the course like Oral Communication helped me to get rid of my fear. Now I can see the day I graduate and become a teacher. I am a hard worker and I have patience as well, which would be helpful for my teaching career. One of the examples of my being a hard worker is when I admitted in LaGuardia Community College I ended up getting "B" grades in all of my courses for the first two semesters. I had a real hard time understanding Americans accents and communicating with others in class. I was incapable of speaking fluent English. So I wasn’t good in class participation. I was very sad about it but I didn’t give up and tried as best as I could. Now I am an honor student of this college.
