Marquis Harrison Intro to College Composition 10-25-04 Kerry vs. Bush on Terrorism I think that in every presidential race, there are certain points that each party has that will influence the people of America one way or another. I will touch on the thoughts that both parties have on the war on terrorism. I believe that this is one of the more important aspects of this particular election, for the simple reason of what happened during 9/11, and what our troops are doing now over in the Middle East. The real question is what Kerry will do better if he gets in office, or what Bush will do better if he is reelected. And the answer is Kerry will prove to the people that he is a better fit president than George W. Bush. Presidential candidate, John Kerry, plans to fight a stronger war, and essentially have the mind set of “We will get to you before you get to us.” On the other hand, the Republican candidate, George W. Bush, plans to keep fighting the war in the same fashion as is being done now. Bush thinks that we must continue to rebuild in Iraq and keep our troops over to avoid conflict within the country. I believe that Bush should let their country deal with the issues over there, and tend to the issues and problems at hand in America. John Kerry’s main plan on terrorism is to free the world from fear. He plans to fight for a cause other than just resources, as his opposing running mate is doing. Kerry thought that Bush was focusing on the wrong person when he was going after Saddam Hussein, when the real threat was posed by Osama bin Laden. If Kerry is elected, he will finish up the war against the al Qaeda, and refocus America’s attention back on the real war. Bush and Kerry have some things in common, even though they are competing with each other. George Bush wants to try to make it harder and more expensive for terrorists to purchase and use weapons of mass destruction (WMD). President Bush wants to make the terrorist countries rejoin the international circle where they can become allies with the United States of America and other bordering countries, so life will be better for the people of America and worldwide. John Kerry’s main agenda is to strengthen our military. He doesn’t want them to just be feared, but also respected for what they stand for. He also plans to cut off all nuclear weapons that terrorists seek, and this should cut down some of the problem that America is facing now. Kerry also plans to make some sort of strategy to prevent the terrorists from poisoning more minds. John Kerry believes that it would be best if he try to implement the thought of democracy and to freedom to the Muslim community. They both also, plan to try to stop the invasion of terrorists on American soil, and that is the most important in my eyes. George W. Bush and John Kerry both have great points and it should be a very interesting presidential race, but I believe that whoever is elected will do their absolute best to keep America out of harms way.
