Nature and Purpose of Agency
Change for Kids (CFK) is a not-for-profit organization that partners with underserved public elementary schools
to bring resources that help realize the vision and goals of an outstanding principal.
By creating inspiring learning communities at our partner schools, CFK enables students to discover their
unique strengths and develop the confidence to achieve. Our education goal is to increase student and parent
engagement and support the development of 21st Century Learning Skills, which in turn will improve school
achievement.
Tasks Available for Students
We are seeking energetic and enthusiastic individuals to work closely with our elementary students, grades K –
5, to help them build essential vocabulary and become confident readers. The literacy tutoring program allows
each adult tutor the opportunity to develop a deep and meaningful relationship with the children they mentor
while helping him/her master the English language. Tutors facilitate activities focused on essential vocabulary
words, listening skills, pronunciation, and reading comprehension. We ask that our literacy tutors be punctual
and professional while in the schools, and they must take a sincere, active, and appropriate interest in the wellbeing of all students. Most of all, you are expected to share your love of reading with emerging readers.
Responsibilities:

Attend a tutor orientation session with CFK Education Director and School Managers prior to starting
duties in the school

Be fingerprinted and cleared by GoPass
·
Attend an initial orientation session with literacy coach and/or classrooms teachers at assigned school
·
Work one on one with students to provide them with academic tutoring in the areas of reading and
writing or other tasks as assigned by classroom teachers
·
Communicate effectively and professionally with teachers and/or literacy coach or with the CFK School
Manager at assigned school
·
Attend periodic check-ins with classroom teachers to report on student progress
Time Requirements
September 2014-December 2014, and/or January 2015-May 2015, 10-12 week commitment per semester;
minimum 2 hour commitment

right onto Hillside Avenue. Turn left onto Sutphin Blvd. Turn right onto Lakewood Ave. Take the 3rd left
onto Inwood St. Your Destination will be on the left.
