Pollock Open Forum: -Terry Menna: Today is a day of elections and I want to remind everyone that they should follow the rules and procedures of electing the students of the House. We have statutes to where you can look up online. We hope that this will be simple and clean. You are all governed to uphold Sunshine State Laws. It is important to understand those rules. Do not discuss with other members what you plan to vote in favor for. In-House Elections: -Fitspatrick Alerte: Junior at FAU. Want to join student government to become a better leader. I feel being a part of SGA will further my schooling. High School delegate and representative at my previous school. Questions: -Capata: how are you managing everything with a 2.5GPA? (Why is your GPA so low?) Answer: Last semester I was under a lot of work and stress with family. My organization tampered with my GPA a little bit. -Jennifer Joseph: (No Show) -Jenna Nicholson: Transfer student from PBCC. On executive board for Student Government at PBCC. Historian for PBCC and Event Coordinator. Reason to join is I would like to be a voice for students who think what they say doesn’t matter. Questions: -Haye: What campus did you transfer from? Answer: Boca Raton Shackelford: Part of any organizations at FAU? Answer: Student Advisory Board. -Kaceion Hudson: Want to be a member of the house to serve as a voice for the students. Member of the design nation and also a Howlett member. I help with the recruiting process of the football members. Questions: -Haye: Do you feel you can balance your job and work at student government? Answer: I know how to manage time effectively. Yes and I will give 100% to each thing I am in. -Rashad Khonat: Reason I want to join is to increase my leadership and understanding of students around me. In high school I was parliamentarian and of a club. I am currently a martial artist learning leadership from there. I am always open to new ideas and thoughts Questions: -Ejene: What martial arts? -Answer: Kempo -Pollack: Are you taking 5 or 6 hours? -Answer: It is supposed to be 5 -Michael Burshteyn: (no show) Presidents Report: -Whymer: We have been discussing the possible increase in fees and had some representatives sitting on the committee (Chuck Forbes, Marni Sherman, and Alan Pollock). On Wed., we will be discussing multiple fees and differential tuition increases. If you want the breakdown there’s the fee of transportation and more. For the essence of time, if you want more in-depth description please set up a meeting with me on Monday or Tuesday. We formed a Student Government/Athletic Committee to see where money is going and to market athletic events. As far as internal stuff, homecoming and weeks of welcome we have been working on. We wanted to decorate the breezeway for homecoming as we did back during elections. At the audit and finance meeting, we will speak about textbook affordability and as well as the anti-discrimination act that the House has passed. Keep working hard and I commend you for that. Casino night will need volunteers for dealing cards and such. The date for Casino Night is 8/21/09. Oath of Office: *Marni Sherman becomes Governor of Boca Raton Campus. I have been involved in the Academic Lobbying Committee, and the Time Capsule Committee. I have shadowed the speaker with the traffic and parking committee and many other committees. Outside of student government I am the marketing director of the FAU Pre-law Society. I want to stress the Sunshine State Law if I am elected. I want to know what you guys are into so I can get you involved in your specific areas. Parliamentary procedure would be another focus to the representatives. I am revising the 600 statues to take away some power from the elections board. I am working at the Alumni Center while I am Chief Justice.
