Job Title: Research Software Engineer Company: National Jewish Health City: Denver, CO Position Type: Salaried/Full-time Rate: Commensurate with experience Application submission e-mail: humphriess@njhealth.org Job Description: The Quantitative Image Lab (QIL) at National Jewish Health provides quantitative image analysis for clinical and research purposes, researches methods for efficient large-scale processing of medical images and develops image analysis techniques to recognize and characterize normal and abnormal anatomy. This position supports the mission of the QIL by designing, developing and maintaining custom software for medical image analysis. The Research Software Engineer plays a key role by applying modern best practices in the design and development of scientific software. Essential Responsibilities 1. Work with QIL researchers and collaborators to design, develop, document and maintain software for QIL research and projects. 2. Design, implement and test computing algorithms for image processing, data analysis and visualization. 3. Work with QIL imaging scientist to develop functional prototypes of image analysis algorithms. 4. Establish and optimize computational pipelines for batch processing large collections of medical images. 5. Produce robust computer code that is properly tested and documented, making use of existing and open source software when appropriate. 6. Willingness and flexibility to learn new methods and computer languages when needed 7. Communicate with colleagues and collaborators in a professional, courteous and timely manner. 8. Responsible for assisting with project management, adhering to timelines and meeting deadlines. Will handle several tasks simultaneously. 9. Provides excellent customer service, internal and external. 10. Monitor institutional policies and procedures affecting research laboratories and implement them as needed. Inform staff about institutional policies and procedures. Ensure that institutional policies and procedures are complied with by research staff. 11. Provides miscellaneous technical support and backup if needed 12. Train research staff and collaborators on the use of QIL software. 13. Performs all other duties, including special projects, as assigned. Job Requirements: A minimum of 2 years recent and related experience in computer programming or software engineering. Proven work experience in software development with general technical understanding of personal computers, networks, and related software and hardware technology.
