Changing Earth Test Friday, December 4th Study Guide and Materials For your test on “Changing Earth”, you should know the following concepts: 4 layers of the Earth: Be able to label and describe each layer (including Convection Currents). Tectonic plate movements: Be able to name, describe, and draw an “arrow diagram” for each of the 4 different types. Effects of plate movements: Be able to describe the different changes to Earth’s surface that occur (ie: landforms, earthquakes) Continental Drift Theory and Pangea Tremors, Earthquakes, and Tsunamis: Be able to describe what they are and the damage they cause, depending on where they occur. Volcanoes: Be able to name the 3 types of volcanoes, and list characteristics of each. Words To Know: (**Be able to explain each in your own words – do not memorize.) Crust Mantle Inner Core Outer Core Convection Currents Fault Earthquakes Tremors Tsunami Magma Lava Cinder Cone Composite Shield Volcano Study Materials: Focus on the following items, which should all be in your Science notebook: “Earth Cutaway” showing layers of the Earth, and chart showing characteristics of the layers. “Convection Currents” “Evidence of Pangea” map with key “Tectonic Plates” diagram page (showing arrow diagrams) Earthquake Vocabulary (small sheet) “Tsunamis” with one fill-in-the blank page “Types of Volcanoes”: 3 types and characteristics of each Please also take the following item out of your binder and place into your study folder: “How Earth’s Surface Has Changed – Continental Drift” with questions “Shake, Rattle, and Roll” reading with the 2-page fill-in the blank
