PROOFREAD YOUR WORK BY READING IT ALOUD... DON’T JUST DEPEND UPON “SPELLCHECK!!!” *** Congratulations! You are well on your way to becoming an expert. Over the next few weeks you should be researching your topic, and preparing a presentation using the following guidelines: 1. Create your Expert Fact Sheet. Use the sample guidelines that you have been given. You must give me your Typewritten, Proofread Fact Sheet by so that I can make copies to give out to your classmates. Prepare a spoken presentation, during which you will teach the class about your topic. -You should use your Expert Fact Sheet as an OUTLINE of what you would like to talk about, but you may NOT read to us. – You need to TALK to us in your own words, giving lots more information about what is written on the fact sheet. -Be prepared to answer questions. -Plan something for your students to do or look at during some part of the presentation, or they will be bored. -You are required to have at least one visual aid to show to the class, such as a model, diorama, tool, chart, map, sample artwork, etc. -If you are using a video clip, power point slide, etc., it should only be for a few seconds, and serve as a supplement to what you are explaining. -Your entire presentation may be no more than 5 minutes long. 3. You must present, and dress, as a real life expert on your topic, or his/her assistant with the same theories/viewpoints. Introduce yourself as the expert at the start of the presentation; tell us what your typical day as the expert is like, and how you, the expert, first became interested in this phenomenon. 4. You are to remain in character until the final portion of your talk – at that point you are to explain YOUR own conclusions and theories about your topic. 5. You need to choose an unusual vocabulary word to share with the class on our Word Wall. Using the index card that you have been given, write the word on one side, and the definition and your name on the other side. Write in large, dark print letters so that we can read the card from across the room. First write in pencil, and when you are happy with how it looks, trace over the writing with a dark, black marker.
