FUND DESCRIPTIONS
General Fund (10000) money is used for the operation of a school/college, a
department, or a project/grant in supporting the primary missions of the University. This
fund includes state appropriations, University allocations, Student fees and tuition, and
Indirect Cost Recovery.
Expendable Restricted Fund (20000 – 30000) contains money given to the University
by a sponsor for a specific purpose. A sponsor could be the federal government (20000),
a private corporation (25000), or an individual gift (30000). Most research project or
grants are financed from this fund.
Designated Fund (40000) represents money given to the University with no identified
purpose. The University Board of Regents decides how this money is used. Included in
this fund are expenditures for special projects designated by the University, such as
conferences and seminars.
Auxiliary Fund (50000 – 56500) is for those units who are self-sustaining and provide
goods and services to other University departments for a fee. Examples include the
Hospital (56000) and the many Service Units.
Student Loan Fund (60000 – 69999) is only used by the Student Loan and Student
Financial areas of the University.
Endowment Fund (70000 – 79999) is gift money given to the University where the
principal is kept in perpetuity and the interest income is available for use in limited
situations approved by the Endowment Fund Area.
Plant Fund (80000 – 86500) is used for Construction and building maintenance at the
University. Money for departmental equipment (82000) is included in this fund group.
Agency Fund (90000) tracks activities and serves as the custodian and fiscal agent for
entities associated with, but not owned by, the University. Examples include student,
faculty, and staff organizations.
