UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, MVLS BSc(MedSci) and BSc BURSARY SCHEME NOTES ON COMPLETING THE APPLICATION FORM To be Read by All Applicants Part 1 - Personal Details Question 12 - This question is included because the University recognises that students who have entered Higher Education from care are required to make their own arrangements for accommodation during vacations. Part 2 - Your Finances Students admitted to the medical course after 1998 will be eligible for an NHS means tested bursary when they enter their 5th year of study. It is understood that students who have undertaken an intercalated degree will therefore receive the bursary when they return to Year 4 of the medical course. Whatever your circumstances, it will be expected that you will have applied for a grant from your Local Education Authority (LEA). You will also be expected to have claimed for additional allowances to which you might be entitled, e.g. the extra allowance for the longer length of the Medical academic year, allowances for dependants, disability etc. If, for any reason, your LEA has refused to make you any part or all of an award, please give the reason(s). Scottish students will be expected to have applied for the Access Grant (available to young students from low income groups) or the Mature Student Bursary. Your maintenance grant may have been assessed to include a parental contribution. If so, please enter the amount that you will receive from the Local Authority/sponsor, and the amount that your parents should contribute according to the LEA/sponsor’s assessment. Questions 4, 5 & 6: All students to complete Part 3 - Personal Statement You are invited to make a statement to explain why your financial situation might prevent you from undertaking a BSc(MedSci) or a BSc. PROCESSING OF APPLICATIONS Who will Consider your Application? The Bursary Scheme is managed by a Committee convened by Professor T Evans. When will you know the Outcome?
