____________GENERAL
STRATEGIES__________________________
 Gain as much experience as possible by completing an internship or an apprenticeship
with a local theatre and/or participating in summer stock.
 Network with people in the field and join professional groups to make contacts.
 Read newspapers, periodicals & trade magazines to keep apprised of current events
relating to theatre.
 Join a relevant union or guild to be eligible for employment.
 Volunteer, if possible, with fundraising and/or theatre activities.
 Check for the legitimacy of agencies and companies before making any commitments.
 Be prepared to move to a different area for opportunities.
 Theatre helps students develop verbal and written communication & public speaking
skills. These skills are highly valued and practical to employers in sales, marketing,
management & public relations.
 After acquiring an interest, there are many ways to be involved in the theatre while
working in another career field.
