JOB SUMMARY:
This is a Department of the Air Force (AF) Pathways Student Internship Announcement.
Students considered must reside within the commuting area where the position is located.
If you are looking for a unique opportunity to gain valuable work experience, an internship
with the Department of the Air Force is for you. AF Internships offer challenging work and
the opportunity to gain “real world” experience.
The Internship offers valuable work experience directly related to your academic field of
study or career goals. As an Intern, you will be given the opportunity to gain the
knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a successful career with the US Air Force
upon completing your degree, certificate or diploma and meeting conversion eligibility
requirements. However, it is important to remember that eligibility for conversion does not
guarantee you will be offered a permanent position.

Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing standards,
policies, and techniques.

Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures;
and computer hardware and/or software systems and their interfaces.

Knowledge of COBOL, FORTRAN, or other higher level programming
language; and the terminology, codes, abbreviations, and graphics for
preparing system documentation or programs.
Note: AFOTEC uses Microsoft .NET languages and web standards
(HTML 4/5, CSS 3, XML, XSL, JavaScript, etc.).

Knowledge of local rules and procedures controlling job priorities and
controls on access to data and program files.

Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and/or software
and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Successful completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's
degree or completion of 4 academic years of pre-professional study. The required education
must be either: (a) related to the field in which student will receive on the job training; or
(b) applicable under the qualification standard for the target occupational series or have
completed 3 academic years of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree and one
period of GS-4 student work experience; or (b) completion of 2 1/2 academic years of study
leading to a bachelor's or higher degree and 6 months (at least 960 hours) of GS-4 student
work experience.
This position has an education requirement. You will be required to provide transcripts or
proof of enrollment to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an
accrediting
institution
recognized
by

U.S.
Department
of

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be
used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been
deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It

Interns may work part-time or full-time schedules

meet the following:
1. U.S. citizenship
2. Successful completion of academic course of study, degree, diploma, etc.
3. Completion of a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Internship
Program
4. Meet the OPM Qualification requirements for the position the intern may be
converted to
5. Maintain acceptable performance
It is important to remember that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee the agency
will offer conversion.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5, United States Code
(U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires the active duty service member to furnish a “certification”
of active service. A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that
certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty
service in the armed forces under honorable conditions not later than 120 days after the
date the “certification” is signed. Agencies are required to accept, process, and grant
