Miami-Dade College General Education Outcomes
As graduates of Miami-Dade College, students will be able to use the following Learning
Outcomes:
1.Communicate effectively using listening, speaking, reading, and writing
skills.
6. Create strategies that can be used to create personal, civic, and social
responsibility.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of ethical thinking and its application to issues in
society.
Course Description: Students continue to develop speaking and listening skills
necessary for participating in classroom discussions with an introduction to oral
presentation and critical listening skills.
3 credits
Prerequisites: Students place into this level through their score on the
Michigan/EPT, ACT/ESL diagnostic examinations or by successfully completing EAP
1301.
Co-requisites: EAP 0400L
PRODUCTION
Competency 1: The student will use grammatical structures consistent with levels
1-4.
Competency 2: The student will by participate in classroom discussions, express
opinions and be understood by attentive listeners. The student will continue to
develop oral communication skills including fluency, idea sequencing, accuracy,
vocabulary, and pronunciation.
Competency 3: The student will ask informational questions and ask for clarification.
Competency 4: The student will actively participate in role-playing, simulating
social and academic situations (e.g., giving advice, expressing obligation, necessity,
permission and drawing conclusions).
Competency 5: The student will prepare simple oral presentations on familiar
topics (e.g., comparison, classification, process.)
COMPREHENSION
Competency 6: The student will follow orally expressed multi-step directions
appropriate to the level.
Competency 7: The student will understand factual information and respond
appropriately to comprehension questions.
Competency 8: The student will take notes on contemporary topics (e.g., news
items, reports, etc.).
Teaching methods: video; class discussion; computer assisted learning; collaborative
activities; dictations; tapes and DVD’s, lecture, oral presentations or others.
Attendance Policy: You should come to every class in order to obtain the most complete
educational experience. Participation in this class is only possible if you attend class. If you
arrive late to class it is your responsibility to notify the instructor at the end of class in order
to change your absence to a tardy; otherwise you will be marked absent. Please note:

Participation
Participation is an integral part of the learning process. ENGLISH ONLY is spoken in our
classroom
and active participation is stressed in order to help you improve your
reading, writing, and oral communication skills. Your success in improving your English
skills will depend very heavily on your ability to practice English every minute that you can.
Homework
Homework must be done on the day that it is assigned. You may be required to turn it in or
to use it for an in-class assignment or activity. NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE
ACCEPTED.

No make-up exams allowed unless you have prior permission from me. If you are absent
on the day of an exam with an excusable absence, please see me before the next class
session to discuss possible make-up alternatives. If you do not contact me before the next
class, your exam grade will be counted as an F.

Academic dishonesty: The department affirms its commitment to treat cases of academic

or any form of academic dishonesty may also result in the student’s being placed on
