Covington Chronicle Mrs. Covington’s Third Grade News Learning Targets this Week Math: *I can break objects into equal groups *I can relate repeated subtraction to division grouping. *I can identify partition models and measurement models for division (3.OA.2) Week of December 14th The 6 Minute Solution (Fluency Program) This program is up and running and students are already showing growth as they read, check, and chart their progress. Students are excited to see how their bar graphs climb across the page with each read. It is a great way to build reading fluency and comprehension. Last week we continued to work on strategies for building fluency with our multiplication facts 1-10. We also learned 3 strategies to help us multiply multiples of 10, 100, and even 1,000! This week we will review division and multi-step word problems. Literacy: *I can recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths. (3.RL.2a) * I can determine the central message, lesson, or moral from a story. (3.RL.2b) Last week we had fun acting out folktales and identifying the message/ lesson/morale the author was trying to convey. We also had fun writing our Elf stories and creating a toy. Science: *I can compare Earth’s saltwater and freshwater features (including oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, ponds, streams, and glaciers). (3.E.2.1) December 18th: Holiday Party December 18th: Hat Day $1 donation December 21-January 1st: Winter Break January 4th: Students return to school *I can compare Earth’s land features (including volcanoes, mountains, valleys, canyons, caverns, and islands) by using models, pictures, diagrams, and maps.
