What is Biotechnology
Biotechnology- is the application of molecular genetics
for practical purposes.
Can be used to identify genes for
specific traits or to transfer genes for a
specific trait from one organism to
another organism.
Types of Biotech
•
Recombinant DNA- a DNA segment from at least two
different organisms.

Gel Electrophoresis-The process in which molecules
(such as proteins, DNA, or RNA fragments) can be
separated according to size and electrical charge by
applying an electric current to them while they are in
a gel.
•
Plasmid- a circular piece of DNA.
How It Can Be Used
Medically
For people with
diabetes
they can inject insulin into
their bloodstream.
Gene therapy deals with
the diagnosis and treatment
of genetic diseases and
some other diseases like
cancer.

How it can be used
Criminally
We can find people
who leave evidence
such as DNA or
protein structures can
be caught by using
Gel Electrophoresis.
