Power/Energy Sources (and items to cover in your presentation) Name of Power or Energy Source _____________________________ Description of how that power source was caused by energy from the Sun or from a distant exploding star, such as a SuperNova: History of that Power Source on Earth How does it work/provide power? (details, drawings, pictures, etc) Advantages of the power source: Disadvantages of the power source: Good locations for the power source Not so good locations for the power source Study Guide For Energy/ Power Source Quiz Power Source Description and History Relationship to Sun or star How it works Advantages Disadvantages Location Power/Energy Sources Biomass – Basics: Refers to plant life used for energy, with ethanol added to gasoline at a 10% rate being the major example. Sun’s energy is the driving force, making corn or even water-based plants gro. Its history – Humans have been burning wood for a long, long time, but only recently – in the last 50 years, have they done biomass for ethanol or other fuels. Advantages: totally renewable, less pollution when burned, less damage to the environment when produced, plus it takes carbon from the atmosphere, so is neutral as to climate change. Disadvantages: not as powerful as fossil fuels, can take a lot of space to grow, can take foodstuff away from hungry humans. Good locations, need access to sunshine and water, and for algae, need access to oceans. So, bad location would be where plants don’t grow well, low sunshine.
