Donna Celio donna.celio@lcps.org 571-252-2200 Course Description: In advanced marketing co-op, students will be offered knowledge of the marketing functions as they relate to supervisory and management responsibilities and develop skills needed for advancement. Students will continue combining classroom instructions with a minimum 396 continuous hours per calendar year for supervised training in a marketing business. Technology and core standards of learning are incorporated throughout the curriculum. Co-op students will receive two credits for the course if they meet the class and job requirement. Advanced marketing non co-op students you are not required to complete the supervised on the job training. Non-co-op students only receive one credit for the class. Materials needed for class: Employment in the field of Marketing (1) Three ring binder – include loose leaf paper (1) Spiral or composition notebook (1) Flash drive (USB) (1) Pen or Pencil – be prepared to write during each class period Grading: Your grade will be a combination of the three parts of the marketing program: classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and DECA participation. It will also include the school store .Grades are determined by using a point system. At the end of each quarter, grades will be figured by adding the total amount of points earned divided by the total amount of points possible. Grades will be converted into percentages, which will determine a letter grade. Classroom Instruction 40% The classroom portions of the grade will be evaluated on assignment completion (projects, tests, quizzes, worksheets), class participation to include attendance and punctuality. On-the-job Training 40% The employment grade consists of employer evaluations and completion of monthly wage and hour sheets. Employer evaluation Wage and hour sheet 60% 40% WARNING: a student may not do passing work in the classroom, but his/her training station work may be satisfactory. In cases where the student is passing one are and failing in another, A PASSING GRADE WILL NOT BE GIVEN. Failure of any one of the areas of study in the Marketing Education program will result in loss of all credit for the course. The grade shown on the report card is a cumulative report of class and work progress. NON-CO-OP ONLY: 100% of your grade will be based on classroom instruction. School Store 20% The school store will be open every day before school: 8:25-8:55am. One school store manager (Advanced Marketing students) will be assigned to work the school store five consecutive days or one night time/weekend store event along with two employees every semester. Also each student will also be required to work two days in the store as a sales associated per quarter. Your grade will be based on a performance evaluation completed by the manager and the instructor. Outside Points DECA is a co-curricular organization of marketing students. Therefore, it is integrated into the classroom as well as out-of-school activities. As a student in the marketing program you are required to become a member and be highly involved. Credit will be given for your ACTIVE participation in various DECA activities and events through the use of “outside points”. ONLY paid DECA members will be allowed to participate in DECA competitive events and chapter activities. DECA: All students are expected to participate in DECA, our co-curricular organization for marketing students. DECA is a national organization that promotes leadership, technical understanding of the marketing industry, and social and civic awareness. The membership dues of $30.00 will cover membership expenses at the chapter, district, state and international levels. These affiliation dues will be used to cover activity expenses during the school year. Activities that include business meetings, curriculum relevant projects, community service projects, district, state and international competitive events, leadership conferences, recognition programs, and social events. These fees will also cover a DECA T-shirt, an international pin and a subscription to DECA Dimensions. Stone Bridge High School has a long history of success at the district, state and international levels. (Students do have the option to participate and not receive a t-shirt for a $20 fee for dues). These activities will include but are not limited to donating instructional materials (for example used magazines, coat hangers, etc), volunteering at scheduled DECA events and working in the K9 Korner, Stone Bridge’s school store.
