Practice Positive Group Interaction
Good leaders plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a project
Different management styles involve:
Compromiser = each side giving up something to get something
Dominator = the leader takes over and insists that their ideas are best
Leaders need to be sensitive to the ways each person in the group can best be motivated.
Some work best independently, others in pairs or groups
Effective speaking and listening are part of leadership
A leader is ready to respond to suggestions, problems, and complaints
Good leaders find solutions to the problems that naturally arise when people work together
A good leader manages a meeting by using a set of rules called Parliamentary
Procedure
(Thomas Jefferson’s book of Parliamentary Procedure from 1801)
Democratic method for allowing people to voice their opinions in order to reach a majority decision
A simple majority vote is one more than half of the group (i.e. in a group of 50, a simple majority is 26)
When the chair announces “motion carried” he is asking for a revote
Division of the House = members of the house literally divide into groups indicating a vote in favor of or in opposition to a motion on the floor
A style of voting in which the chairperson asks members to vote on a motion by saying “Aye” or “No”
A leader is a role model and sets an example for others
Good followers are responsible, complete their tasks on time, and use good communication skills
A citizen is a member of a community, such as a school, city, or nation
Every citizen has the responsibility to obey the law
In civil law, the person making the complaint is the Plaintiff
The person they are making the complaint against is the Defendant
