Art 1 Beginning Implied Lines GOAL 1: Develop critical and creative thinking skills and perceptual awareness necessary for understanding and producing art. GOAL 2: Develop skills necessary for understanding and applying media, techniques, and processes. Needs: resource photos and magazines, viewfinders, sketchbook, pencil, Sharpies, rulers, shape templates (for special needs students), eraser, tracing paper, 12x18" white paper Monday 1. Introduction of implied lines: emoticon heart on the board (<3), what is it? Discuss how you knew. Do same with a row of students, grid of lights, stars on the flag. 2. Implied Line Project a. Looking at your teacher's example, make an Implied Line Design based on the theme of your choice, for example, flowers, birds, people, words, numbers, animals, cars, or other shapes with highly recognizable outlines. You may find these theme images on the internet, in magazines, books, or photos, but you may NOT make any up! Please email your teacher your theme today. b. Trace the outlines of your theme images to use for your design onto tracing paper. You may not have any internal details! You must have at least five shapes, all related to your theme. Save these images in your portfolio. Tuesday 1. Please get out your Contour Hands Project. You will grade it in a self-assessment. 2. On your white paper, arrange your tracings in an attractive design using the Golden Section. You may use the front of your tracing or flip it over for the reverse image. Your teacher will explain what this means for your layout. http://www.flawlesslayout.com/here/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Fibonacci-serires-golden-section.jpg Examples of Golden Section in art: click on the links: TedTalks Lynda.com 3. How can you get the traced images onto your paper? There are several ways! Copy your images onto your paper lightly: don't press too hard or you will damage the paper. You will be erasing pencil marks later so these designs will be IMPLIED LINES with no outlines. 4. Using a ruler's straight edge, fill each shape with parallel lines that are close together but not touching. This will show Implied Lines as a silhouette. Please use ultrafine or fine Sharpies or highlighters. Please use either one color for each shape or up to three analogous colors on each shape. Draw your colorful lines right up to the pencil line outline, but do not touch the marker to the pencil line, as the pencil line will not erase with marker on it. 5. HOMEWORK: Please bring in one example of an implied line as seen in your home. Take a photograph of it or bring it in for a grade tomorrow. Wednesday-Friday 1. Please finish your Implied Line project by Duesday. Please write your name on the front in Implied Lines. 2. Mount the drawing onto half a black posterboard for stability. Your teacher will show you how to tack it down with a small amount of rubber cement or glue stick. 3. We will study for the line test which will be next Friday.
