Art 1, Week 18 Color Scheme Portraits Essential Standards B.CX.1.3 Understand how art is used to document human experience. Common Core Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text. Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse formats and media, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words. Prepare: Backdrop for model, drawing boards, art pencils, colored pencils, Scholastic Art November 2010 magazines, sketchbook/paper, hats and fruit for model, Art News magazines/calendar pictures/posters, art show rubrics, art show critiques, bucket, military figurines, Post-its, paintbrushes. Monday 1. Assignment 1: Students work in teams that are chosen by choice of tertiary hue: yellow-orange, yellowgreen, red-orange, red-violet, blue-green, blue-violet. Each team sits together to complete group assignments for the rest of the semester. Points will be posted on a poster on the white board. Each team must make a flag or banner that will mark their table. The flag must have the following information on it: a. Your tertiary hue and another art term as part of your team name: for example: the Blue Violet Implied Lines. b. An image that shows your tertiary hue and art term as a team logo: for example: a Blue Violet Implied Line Smiley Face. c. All team member names on the front: written legibly and large. Your teacher will have you draw numbers to decide your teams. As a team, decide your hue, art term and make your flag. All students must contribute in some way for the flag design and creation. You may use any art materials you are comfortable with. Choose your team members wisely! Extra credit points go to the winning teams! Your flag will mark your table: put the flag board in modeling clay on your table. 2. Assignment 2: Teach us! Think of something you can teach. It can be an art, craft, knowledge, sports, a how-to project, words in a foreign language. Each member should brainstorm a list of things you do well, for instance, sing a song in Spanish, an aerobics routine, a technique on your laptop, play a musical instrument, teach us facts about the Holocaust or where the Easter eggs are in a video game, storytelling, how to tie your shoelaces a new way, how to save money, how to crochet, how to draw a character, how to braid hair in an interesting way…make it something that most people would not know how to do already if possible. Bonus points are awarded for any arts: art, craft, singing, instruments, drama. Discuss with your team the best two things to teach to the class. Your teacher will grade your individual contribution. Next, your teacher will grade what your whole team teaches the class. Try to make it something you can teach your team to do with you. You will teach the class on Friday. This is an EFFORT grade, not a COMPETENCE grade. Tuesday 1. Assignment 4: In vine charcoal, sketch the standing model posing with a hat, fruit, and a serious expression. Your goal is to draw the entire figure on the 12x18" paper. If you are absent, the sketching may be done at home: ask someone to pose for you so you may draw them, following the directions. If nobody will pose for you, please find a photo of a real person in as close to the correct pose as possible. In oil pastels, color only the NEGATIVE SPACE of the drawing in a primary color scheme using only cross-hatching. 2. Assignment 5: Get out your Color Notes to study for your Color Test on Wednesday. Points will be awarded for teams with the most Color Notes. Wednesday- ART SHOW is DUE TODAY!!! 1. Set up your art show display in the library on the left lower bookcases. Then grade your work on the rubric. 2. Assignment 6: On yesterday’s drawing, fill the figure with a neutral color scheme. Blend your colors with a Q-tip so no substrate shows. 3. Assignment 7: Get out your color notes to study for your test next Wednesday. With a highlighter, mark any color vocabulary you don't understand. Discuss in your group how to learn more about this vocabulary for your test. Points awarded for highlighted terms and discussion about studying help. Thursday 1. Assignment 8: Sketch the sitting model posing with a look of apathy. Using crayons, fill the negative space with an analogous color scheme. 2. Assignment 9: Color Theory Review for test: Go to Kahoot.it and enter the code on the big screen. 3. Assignment 10: Using crayons, fill the figure with a monochromatic color scheme. Friday 1. 2.
