Classroom ExpectationsBe prepared for class: This includes being in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. It also includes
having everything you need to participate in class that day. Please do not come to class without books, assignments, or
any other required materials.
Show respect for others and yourself: You can achieve this by not being disruptive in any way to your fellow students
or the teacher. In addition, to not touch other people, take their belongings, or participate in behaviors that distract
others. Show that your care about yourself by putting forth your best effort to achieve your goals. Use respectful,
courteous language. Remember your manners and show others consideration by treating them with kindness and respect.
Tardies: To avoid a tardy, be in the classroom before the bell rings and have all the materials you will need for the day.
BE PREPARED AND READY TO LEARN WHEN THE BELL RINGS!
Academic Achievement - Grades will be based on the following:
Major tests, reports, writing assignments, and projects: Will be announced in advance with directions, format, due
dates and the criteria for grading provided.
Short quizzes: Will be announced in advance on vocabulary, language, and literature.
Class work and homework assignments: Students are responsible for checking and correcting their work in class.
Students are expected to write down all homework assignments in their agenda and check teacher and team websites as
needed. Mrs. Sullivan’s homework is always clearly announced in class, posted in her room, on the team homework
calendar website and on her website. Students and parents can also email Mrs. S. to obtain information.
Academic and Behavior Consequences include: lunch detention, parent contact and dean referral.
NOTE on quarterly work: Students are responsible for keeping all graded assignments in their English binder for
each quarter in the pocket folder labeled “ENGLISH GRADED ASSIGNMENTS”. Mrs. S. is very careful when
entering and calculating grades; however, if students keep all their quarterly graded assignments, this will help resolve any
discrepancies that may occur.
TYPED vs. Handwritten work: A typed copy is preferred. If that is not possible, THREE alternatives are available:
1. A NEATLY handwritten copy
OR
2. Save the document on a flash drive and print in school
OR
3. Email the document to Mrs. S. and she can print it
Work Habits: Students will be expected to do the following:

Come to class on time

Come prepared for class with the required materials

Complete assignments on time and complete missing assignments in a timely fashion

Pay attention and stay on task

Display courteous and responsible behavior
Absences: Each student will be given one day per absence to make up work. The student will receive full credit for
work if this policy is followed. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what make-up work is required. See the
websites, email Mrs. Sullivan or contact a classmate for information.
The Writing Process: **Students
receive valuable feedback at each stage, so it is
imperative they have the writing in class the day it is due.**
During the year we will be taking many writing assignments through the writing process (Prewriting,
rough draft, second draft, final copy). VERY IMPORTANT: It is essential that students have the
assignments on the due date because we do a great deal of peer and teacher conferencing with each piece.
