Mrs. Bayard’s January Classroom Newsletter Things going on in the classroom I hope everybody had a wonderfulChristmas and New Year holiday and enjoyed the time with your families. The end of the second quarter is quickly approaching and the Reading 3D testing will be administered this month. I am very excited to see how well the students will perform and as I gather data and results I will be in contact with you regarding your child’s results. Continue to read with your children a minimum of 20 minutes each night. Please use Moby Max and RAZ kids as these are all great resources to reinforce skills and content being taught in the classroom. Also remember to check your child’s blue folder and planner for papers, homework schedule, spelling words and important dates. Please send your child to school in a warm jacket. As long as it is not raining we will go outside for recess. OA.1 I can identify the problem types to solve word problems. I can use addition to join two amounts. I can solve addition problems when there is an unknown change. I can solve addition problems when there is an unknown amount at the beginning. I can use subtraction to find how many are left. I can use subtraction to solve problems where the start is unknown. I can use subtraction to find a missing amount. I can solve two-step problems with addition and subtraction. I can solve for a symbol that represents an unknown change in addition and subtraction problems. 2. NBT.5 I can fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction. 2. NBT.7 I can add and subtract within 1000 using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value. 2. Article Title 4 Mrs. Bayard’s Classroom Newsletter Pg. 2 Daily Schedule Letterland, Daily 5, Reading Interventions, and Guided Reading will all be taught in the morning before lunch. I have allotted time for a snack and bathroom break around 9:10. Please feel free to send a snack with your child. If your child does not have a snack I will gladly provide one. This would typically be animal crackers, cheese crackers, Chex mix, or pretzels. If you would like to donate a snacks it would be greatly appreciated. After lunch we will spend time with writing, science, math, and social studies. Enhancements 9:30-10:15 Lunch 11:25-11:55 Recess 1:05-1:35 Breakfast closes at 7:30 and instruction begins. If you would like your child to eat breakfast, please have him/her here at school by 7:15, so they can get to class on time for their learning. Reading Essentials 2. RI.4 I can find meaning for 2nd grade words and phrases. I can use context clues to determine word meaning. 2. RI.6 I can tell the author’s main purpose of a text. 2. RI.7 I can explain how images (diagrams, charts, etc.) relate to the text. 2. RL.2 I can retell a variety of stories from diverse cultures. I can identify the main idea of the selection. 2. W.6 I can use digital tools, (PowerPoint, word, publisher, smart board, websites, etc.) to create a writing product by myself or in a group. 2.
