BACK TO SCHOOL! Mrs. Bayard’s September Newsletter Start of our new school year Now that I have had the pleasure of getting to know your children better, we are ready to officially start the school year. I want this school year to be very successful for your child. It is essential that we work together to make this year have an everlasting effect on your child, both academically and emotionally. I believe that if we join forces and support each other, your child will do the very best they can. I will send home monthly newsletters indicating the essentials for the month, as well as any other pertinent information. OA.2 Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. 2. NBT.1 Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represents amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones. Reading Essentials 2.RF.3b I can read one syllable words with short vowels. Keep the tone simple and positive. Occasionallyyou might need to remind 2.RF.4b I can understand what I am parents about classroom rules. reading. 2.RL.1a I can answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions from the text. 2.RL.2b I can identify the main idea of the selection. 2.RL.5 I can describe the beginning and the end of a story. 2.RL.7a, b, & c I can use information from pictures, print, or digital text to show and understanding of the characters, setting, and plot. Article Title 4 Mrs. Bayard’s Classroom Newsletter Pg. 2 Daily Schedule Letterland, Daily 5, Reading Interventions, and Guided Reading will all be taught in the morning before lunch. I have allotted time for a snack and bathroom break around 9:10. Please feel free to send a snack with your child. If your child does not have a snack I will gladly provide one. This would typically be animal crackers, cheese crackers, chex mix, or pretzels. If you would like to donate a snacks it would be greatly appreciated. After lunch we will spend time with writing, science, math, and social studies. Enhancements 9:30-10:15 Lunch 11:25-11:55 Recess 1:05-1:35 We will also work on geometry problems in Math homework.In Social Studies, we will read a book about the culture of the Inuit people, who used to be called Eskimos. I believe that each child should strive to do their best every day and enter our class room with a positive attitude and prepared and ready for the day’s activities. The enhancements, homework, and spelling are all written in the student planner. It is the student’s responsibility to get this information written into their planner at the beginning of each week. The math and spelling homework will be sent home in packet form on Monday and is due on Friday. In addition to the written homework, I request that each student read a minimum of 20 minutes each evening. Dates to Remember: Monday, September 7th is Labor Day-no School. Wednesday, September 16th is an early release day. Wednesday, September 23th progress reports will be sent home. Friday, September 25th is a teacher work day. Reminders to Parents Please check your child’s book bag for their blue folders. The folder will have homework to be completed, papers for you to keep, and papers to be returned to school. Your child also has a daily planner to keep track of assignments, events, spelling words, and communications. If you send lunch money for your child, please seal it in an envelope with the students name, account number, amount, and my name. Also, if there are any transportation changes, you must send a written note.
