September 2014
Dear Parents of Algebra 1 Students,
Welcome to a new school year! My name is Mrs. Stolte and I am your child’s Algebra 1 teacher.
I am looking forward to working with your child and helping him/her master the skills necessary
to be successful in all other high school mathematics. It is my goal to provide a positive
classroom environment where students will do quality work and have fun learning math through
student-centered instruction and high level thinking. Please read the following important
information to help your child be successful in this class.
Supplies
Supplies needed for math:
- 3 ring binder
- 5 dividers
- Loose leaf paper
- Pencils
- TI-84plus (highly recommended*)
*A class set will be available during school.
What to Bring to Class:
- Agenda
- Binder
- Pencils
- Homework completed
After School Help
I will be available, by
appointment only, to help
students on Wednesday
afternoons from 3:25-4:10.
Homework
Homework is an important component in math class because it provides additional practice of
the skills and concepts learned in class. The class notes, homework, and homework answer key
will be posted daily to your child’s VISION math course page (a link will be provided on my
Farmwell staff page for parent access). I expect students to complete their homework
assignments neatly, thoroughly and check his/her answers by using the key on the website.
Homework will be checked by me every class. I will be looking to see work shown, answers
clearly written, and evidence that you checked the answers online (check marks, score at the
top of the page, etc.) We will go over any questions you were unsure of in the next class block.
Grading & Re-testing




Please periodically check your child’s progress on CLARITY.
Your child’s grade will be calculated on a weighted point system:
Formative Check-ups: 20% Summative Assessments: 80%
If your child earns below 70% on a summative assessment worth more than 20 points,
he/she is given the opportunity to raise their assessment grade up to an 70%.
He/she must study their assessment and be prepared to do corrections after school
without any assistance.

Email & ‘Remind’
I believe teacher-parent communication is key for student success. I will be using an app called
‘Remind’ as a simple way for you to stay informed and up-to-date with what’s happening in your
child’s class. By joining my class on ‘Remind’, you’re choosing to receive class messages via push
notifications, text message, or email. Don’t worry, your phone number will not be shared with
me or anyone else. Directions for how to sign up are attached as well as on my website.
If any of your child’s other teachers are using this same app, you only need to download it once
and then just enter each teacher’s code.
VISION will also have upcoming events listed as well as upcoming topics if you choose not to use
this app.
I look forward to meeting you at Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 10th at
6:00 pm. Please feel free to contact me at school if you have any questions or concerns. You
may call me at (571) 252-2320 or send an email to stephanie.stolte@lcps.org .
Sincerely,
Stephanie Stolte
**Please go to the Cheetah Team Webpage on the Farmwell Station website and fill out the
google survey for parent contact information. Your child’s Math, Science, Social Studies, and
Language Arts teachers will all have access to this. This way, you will only need to fill out ONE
survey! 
