3C’s Monday Memo January 18, 2016 Math: This week students will be learning about probability. 4 students have reached 100% math fact fluency on REFLEX! I have written your student’s progress % in the planner today. I am recommending some students to use the site every night at home. Memorizing math facts is very important in 3rd grade. REFLEX is available at home, 7 days a week. Word Study First week of words. Choice on Tuesday and Thursday. Test on Thursday, January 28th. Writer’s Workshop: The class newspaper will be released soon. Waiting on one more article. This week we are working on dictionary guide words, singular/plural nouns, and free write. Please discuss skills that your child misses on Daily Language sheets to help them apply it to their own writing. Announcements: Social Studies: We will complete the ancient Mali unit this week. The quiz for the unit will be on Thursday (tomorrow). Then the students will be working on an alternative social studies assessment (takes the place of SOL) over the Mali on Friday and Monday. This is not graded and used for school reflection. Reading: Thursday we will read and discuss our Scholastic News. Tuesday, I have completed the first round of administering DRA reading level tests. All students have been tested and have completed or are working on the written portion. Current levels will be included on the next report card. A score of 34 or higher is on or above grade level. Please make sure your child is carefully reading Raz Kids and looking for the answers.. It is a good idea to go over the missed questions one on one to help prepare for the SOL test. . PE is on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Please have your child wear gym shoes on those days. We are having problems with the changing of shoes. Thanks for working with me to make sure the students have nutritional snacks. Thanks for signing the planner daily and helping with homework as well! If you have read this memo, print out a copy and sign for your child. He/she will receive an extra sticker for good behavior chart!! Due Tuesday morning. Have a great week!
