News for the College Bound Third Graders of Miss Strohl’s Class January 2016 January News and Notes Welcome Back to School! I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Winter Break. We are going to hit the ground running in January, and not slow down. During this first week back, students will be taking a spelling assessment (DSA) to measure their progress with spelling since their initial assessment in the fall. Many students will also be doing an assessment this month to measure progress toward their reading goals (DRA), and we will be finishing up our Quarterly Benchmark Assessments. We will spend this month studying our ancient civilizations in social studies. We will be moving to some new concepts in math – graphing and patterns. The second grading period ends on Thursday January 28th. The movable teacher workday is scheduled for January 29th. If you feel that you need a conference, or an opportunity to check in with your child’s teacher, please contact me to set one up. Second quarter report cards will go home in early February. We are at that time of the year where snow does occasionally affect our school day. Does your child know what to do in the event of an early closing? Please make sure to discuss these plans with your child so they feel comfortable in the event of an early closing. Please make sure your child is in school and on time as often as possible. Instruction starts promptly at 7:50 a.m. and every minute your child misses is valuable instructional time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
