Abraham (2000 B.C.E.) – Abraham is important because he is the “father” of the Hebrew people and made the first covenant with Yahweh. Moses (1500-1200 B.C.E.) – Moses led the Hebrew people out of slavery in Egypt & received the 10 commandments from Yahweh. These 10 and other laws are known as the Ark of the Covenant. The “Exodus” (1500- 1200 B.C.E.)When Moses led the Hebrew people out of Egypt. This is celebrated each year during Passover. Deborah (Around 1100 B.C.E.) – Deborah was a female judge that helped rule the Hebrew people while they lived as 12 tribes. She is important because most Hebrew women did not hold positions like this in society. Kingdom of Israel (1020-922 B.C.E) – The Hebrew people or Jews, united under a series of Kings. This time is when they enjoyed the greatest period of power and independence. Saul (About 1000 B.C.E.) – Saul was the first of the Kings of Israel. He helped establish the Hebrew people as a united Kingdom. David (About 980 B.C.E.) – David was the second King of Israel. He united all the Hebrew tribes and established Jerusalem as the capital city. Solomon (962 B.C.E) – Solomon was the most powerful of the kings. He helped build a trading empire and built a great Temple in Jerusalem to hold the Ark of the Covenant. Kingdom of Judah (922 B.C.E.) – After Solomon’s death the kingdom of Israel split into two creating Israel in the north and Judah in the south. Siege of Samaria (725 B.C.E.) – The Assyrians attacked Samaria (the capital of Israel) and the Kingdom of Israel fell to the Assyrians. Babylonian Captivity (586 B.C.E) – Solomon’s temple was destroyed by the Babylonians and most of the Hebrew survivors were deported to Babylon and put into slavery. Cyrus the Great (539 B.C.E.) – Cyrus was a Persian King that conquered Babylon. He allowed the Hebrew people to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple. The Second temple was completed in 515 B.C.E.
