ATTRIBUTES OF NOUNS
as well as adjectives and pronouns
Gender
Gender refers to whether the noun is considered masculine, feminine, or neuter. English words
don't automatically have gender, with few exceptions (ships are always referred to as "she").
Number (nouns)
For nouns, number refers to how many there are of something. If it's singular, then there is only one
thing. If it's plural, then there is more than one.
Case
Case refers to the system of noun endings that indicates how a noun is used in a sentence. Latin
has 7 cases. The 5 main ones are nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, and ablative.
Declension
A declension is a group of nouns that have similar patterns. Latin has 5 declensions of nouns (3 for
adjectives). When you write out all the forms of a noun, it is called "declining."
