Hello parents,
We are starting to approach the end of the year quickly! Thank you for all you continue to do to
support your child and our school, your year-long support does not go unseen or unappreciated!
Below is some information about what we are doing in our class this week! Please try to
reinforce this at home to help ensure success for your child.
Reading:
This week, we will be learning about context clues. Context clues help readers to understand the
meaning of a new word. We will be learning how to look for definitions, a restatement,
examples, a comparison, and cause and effect in the text to help us learn new word meanings.
Writing:
This week we will begin our Mo Willems author study. We will be reading tons of Mo Willems
books and students will be using his writing strategies and techniques in their own writing!
Math:
We will be continuing our Money unit this week. Student have learned coin names, values, and
how to count coin combinations. Being able to skip count by 5’s, 10’s, and 25’s is very important
when learning how to count money, please practice this skill at home.
Content:
We are going to continue our geography unit. Students will learn all the parts of a map and also
how to make one!
Word Study:
New words came home today. Please practice these every night, the features are getting harder
and students should be noticing them in their reading and writing!
Working with your child:
Practice counting various coin combinations up to $ 1.00.
What are the parts of a map?
Read for at least 20 minutes each night!
-Use context clues to determine the meaning of an unknown word.
