Hello parents,
Thank you for all you continue to do to support your child and our school, your year-long
support does not go unseen or unappreciated! Below is some information about what we are
doing in our class this week! Please try to reinforce this at home to help ensure success for your
child.
Reading:
This week, we will read finish reading our chapter book, My Father's Dragon. This book has
great vocabulary and we are using context clues to figure out what the words mean. Then,we
will start reading many series books that the students may want to read over the summer. We will
read some Junie B. Jones, Elephant and Piggie, Pigeon books, Magic Tree House, Cam Jenson
books, and many more! Students will be making a list of books that they want to read over the
summer so be sure to check out their list when they bring it home!
Writing:
This week we will continue our Mo Willems author study. We will be reading tons of Mo
Willems books and students will be using his writing strategies and techniques in their own
writing!
Math:
We took out Money assessment on Friday. Please be sure to continue practicing this skills over
the summer! This week we will begin our measurement unit to wrap up our school year. Students
will learn estimation and non-standard forms of measurement.
Content:
We are going to continue our geography unit. Students will learn all the parts of a map and also
how to make one! We will have our geography assessment towards the end of the week!
Word Study:
New words come home on Tuesday. Please practice these every night, the features are getting
harder and students should be noticing them in their reading and writing! Our assessment will
still be Friday. Next week will be our last week of word study!
Working with your child:
Practice using non-standard units, such as paperclips, to measure things around your house.
What are the parts of a map?
What is the difference between a map and globe?
Reinforce differences and relationships between continents, countries, states, and cities.
Read for at least 20 minutes each night!
Field Day:
The date for field day is June 10. The times are as follows:
Full Day K and AM K field day will be 8:30 – 9:30.
PM K field day will be 11:45 – 12:45.
First and second grade field day will be 8:30 – 11:00.
Third, fourth, and fifth grade field day will be 8:30 – 12:00.
More information regarding field days (volunteers sign up, must haves, etc.) can be found on the

successful and energetic event for our scholars!

June 14th: Last Day of School
