Hello parents,
Thank you for all you do to continue to support your child and our school. Below is some
information about what we are doing in our class this week! Please try to reinforce this at home
to help ensure success for your child. Many thanks to our volunteers who have helped in the
classroom or helped us copy or make books. We really appreciate it! Please watch out for
parent teacher signups coming out this week in a Sign up Genius.
Reading:
Tonight we start take home reading. Your child should be bringing home a book that is just
right each night. If they do not finish it, they should still return it to school, but can bring it
home again that night. If you notice they are not bringing home books that they can read (or
are too easy), please let me know. Each morning, they will return the book they read the night
before, switch it out for a new one, and put it in their mailbox to bring home. On Fridays, they
can choose any book from our library to have read to them, read or just enjoy the
pictures! Thank you for your support of our daily reading goal! The more they read, the better
readers they will be!!
We are starting Guided Reading this week! I will being spending time at the reading table with
groups of students to work on reading strategies, sight word reading and writing as well as
writing sentences. Please continue to work at home with your student on reading strategies
and sight words.
Writing:
We are finished with our Eric Carle unit and we will be learning more about how to stretch out
words and write books with a good Beginning, Middle and End.
Math:
We will be wrapping up our graphing unit and moving into number sense. You can work on
reading and writing numbers 1-100 at home this week.
Content:
We will continue to learn about signs of autumn and what the colder weather will mean for
animals, plants, and people.
Word Study:
Your student will bring home a copy of their Word Study Words on Monday. Please practice
these words throughout the week and use them for the homework on Thursday night.
Questions to ask your child:
1. What can you do when you come to a tricky word?
2. Can you count to 100 in order?
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me or call the school at 571-2522120. Thank you again for all you do!
