Team “University of Hartford” at the 19 th running of the “Run of the Charles” {Boston Globe} A record breaking crowd cheered on nearly seventeen hundred paddlers at this years “Run of the Charles” river race now in its 19th year. The race is run each spring to raise money in efforts to clean up the Charles river. Sunny skies resulted in the largest crowds ever cheering on the racers along the twenty-four mile race course. World champion Serge Corbin won the pro division once again, but by only a scant 53 seconds. Excel Technologies won the corporate division for the second straight year. The biggest surprise of the race was the University of Hartford capturing third place in the mixed division. The University overcame several mishaps, including sending three paddlers swimming and losing a paddle.
