Since all assignments are given WAY in advance of the due date - assignments are due when I say they are – you receive a 10pt on time grade for turning work in during the block it is due.(parents MAY NOT TURN IN WORK OR BRING IT TO SCHOOL FOR YOU) . On the RARE OCCAISSION THAT YOU ARE ABSENT - WHEN WORK IS DUE I EXPET YOU TO TURN IT IN TO ME NEXT BLOCK WE MEET. NO EXCEPTIONS. 3. HOW TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT”S DUE - USE YOUR SMARTPHONE calendar…and SET THE ALERT 4. Discussion during class is critical – so do all HW reading etc. when it’s assigned (this is an honors level course and I know your just sweet little ole 9th grade kiddos but I have high expectations and standards for my students). I take time to provide thoughtful challenging and at times exciting assignments – so I on your end I expect you to show up prepared to learn. 5. We will work on GROWING your writing so you don’t’ think/sound like a middle schooler; I mean you’re dressing, acting in the role of a h.s. kid so doesn’t it follow you should think/write like a mature 9th grade honors level kiddo. I am here to help coach you grow into a more confident, college ready writer…I am available to help you during FLEX block and before school (I am 87 years old and I get here by 7 am…so I can meet with students from 8am – to first bell pop by room or ask for me in the English Workroom #232. Cliff, Monarch, Spark Notes etc are for lazy, dull minds – you are neither lazy nor dull therefore relying on summary of assigned reading thinking will result in lower scores. Maintain a sense of humor – it will see you through a successful first year of H.S. 9th Grade Cohort – Relearn/Retake Policy It will be mandatory for students earning 75%-or lower on a summative assessment to relearn the material and retake the assessment per the teacher’s syllabus. Formative assessments must be completed before a student completes a summative assessment. All major writing assignments may be rewritten (with teacher coaching) for a higher grade. (For example, a student earning a 90% may conference with teacher to rework the paper for a 95% 100%.) No retakes/rewrites for any summative assessment will be permitted the final week of the quarter. Major Summative Writing Assessments receive an on time grade of 10 pt – SO LONG AS ESSAY IS TURNED IN DURING BLOCK.
