We will check your presence in class (you need to be

 Learning by attending the course is more effective than
learning through the pages of the book – for several
reasons
 If you decide to follow the course





notes are crucial: if you skip a lecture, ask notes to your
collegues
flexibility on course schedule is requested
you can’t forget that your written group work has 2 precise
deadlines
the teachers will not intervene into the dynamics of the group –
develop an integration capability is part of the learning

Group Work

Choose a company in order to analyze and
evaluate international strategic choices
 Large
firms
 Fast growing firms
 Well known firms
12
Last years…
B-Ticino, Burberry, Buzzi, Campari,
Danone, Ferrari Wines, Fiat, Geox, Go-Pro,
Kering, Nestlè, Lindt, Nike, Perfetti, Prada,
Samsung, Illy, Tiffany, Versace, Yamamay
You cannot choose these companies…
13
Group Work
Define a group of 6-7 students (mix
backgrounds!)
 Teams’ composition and subject of analysis (case
or topic) are to be notified to in class (before Oct
23)
 The title of the group project is defined on a
FIFO (FCFS) policy


A hard work, but… “If you want to walk fast,
walk alone; if you want to walk far, walk with
others” (African saying)
14
Group Work

The output should be structured in 7 sections
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
A brief overview of the company
Results
Competitive Situation
Strategic Choices
Organizational Choices
Other specific issues (ethics/culture/entry
strategies etc.) IF they influenced results
Conclusions
15
Group Work
Look for information on internet and in the library
(electronic first! Data Bases of articles available!)
 The expected output is a .ppt file (20-30 slides) to be
presented in 20 minutes; you are free to choose the
group members that will present the work
 You are invited to use the space under the slides

Files and papers are expected to
be delivered on December 4
in order to be considered
attendees
16
Group Work



Deliver the document in two forms:
paper + .ppt file
Only on December 4 you will discover which
group will present on the same day or later.
The date of presentation does not influence our
evaluation (you deliver file and paper on the
same day)
Only for attendees, there will be a question on
one of the presented companies (to be chosen
among 2 – you cannot answer on your
company)
17
Language
Lectures will be given in English
 The group work must be written and
presented in English
 The written exam is in English, meaning
that questions will be in English and
answers must be given in English (unless
you are an Italian student attending a
degree delivered in Italian)
