UNDERSTANDING GOALS (CONCEPTS):
Students will understand: Why the Bill of Rights was written into
the Constitution.
How to interpret the Bill of Rights. Protections guaranteed in
the Bill of Rights.
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: Why did the Bill of Rights need to
be written into the Constitution? How have the Bill of Rights
been interpreted differently throughout the years?
VOCABULARY: separation of church and state, eminent
domain, due process of law, double jeopardy
STUDENT OBJECTIVES (COMPETENCIES/OUTCOMES):
Students will be able to: -Summarize the debate in congress over the
Bill of Rights
- Define the freedoms that are protected by the first amendment
- Summarize the amendments that protect against abuse of
power by the government
- Describe the role of the courts
- Decribe challenges sitizens face in protecting their rights
STAGE II – ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE
PERFORMANCE TASK: Short class reading and
participation will be assessed. Students will be assessed on a
skill assessment activity. Students will be assessed on their
completion of guided notes. Students will be assessed on their
abilty to define vocabulary in their own words
