How do they compare to other countries in that part of the world? Why does Indonesia have such unique wildlife and culture? What are some of the challenges of governing a nation made up of many islands? Students will understand: Students will understand the basic demographic information about Indonesia. Students will understand the basic ideas behind the government of Indonesia. Students will understand the role that America plays in that area and the business partner of Indonesia.. Students will understand the extraordinary wildlife and culture of this island nation. VOCABULARY: Outback, Marsupial, Aborigine, down under, civilization, tribal, vocabulary from previous nations will be reviewed and relearned. SWBAT demonstrate their knowledge of Indonesia by creating short writing samples about the countries. SWBAT explain in detail the history of Indonesia. SWBAT analyze America's role with Indonesia and predict the future relationship with them. SWBAT understand new vocabulary and apply those words to different class activities. SWBAT understand the different wildlife throughout the Indonesia Islands. STAGE II – ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE PERFORMANCE TASK: Students will take notes on Indonesia. Graphic organizers will be used to categorize the facts about Indonesia and Philippines. Students will in groups compare and contrast the two nations. The goal of this lesson is to have a topic that interests the students enough to put good effort forth in developing summarizing skills and writing skills. Class participation will also be assessed. Reviews of word wall words will be held as often as possible. Research information on the different wildlife and culture will be conducted.
