April News Mrs Lowther’s & Mrs Flake’s Class Website of the month: http://www.asha.org/public/speech/development/default.htm Lesson review The students have worked on glueing their Dr. Seuss art projects into their Dr. Seuss books these last few weeks. The book has some parts of the favorite Dr. Seuss rhyming books that we read throughout March also. Some of the books have gone home; if you haven’t seen your child’s yet, it should be sent home in the next week. I hope you will read the book with your child— there is counting, there are colors to name, there are items your child can name (or you can name and they can repeat). Reminders Class pictures will be taken on Monday, April 18th. If you want your child to come to be part of the class picture, plan to bring them (I will give you an exact date & time when I get our assignment). This will also be another opportunity to get your child’s individual picture taken. A package of pictures will be sent home from Lifetouch. Each and every day we tell your child what is going on around him/her. Your child will learn that his/her words are vital to you understanding what s/he wants. If your child is not sure what words to use, you can let him/her repeat your words. Some of the students are speaking 3-4 word sentences on their own, so please wait them out, and ask them to “use your words” to tell you what they need. I know as a parent myself, it is so hard to wait and not just “do it” for your child, but the more you can encourage your child to do on his/her own, the more your child does on their own, the more they are learning!! Themes this month: A group of ducks come back every year to lay their eggs. The ducks are right outside our classroom window. Once the eggs hatch, we will start feeding the baby ducks! We will also discuss spring (we hope it comes soon and stays!) and the rhyme, “April Showers Bring May Flowers”! We will make umbrellas in art (and talk about when we would need umbrellas), clouds, flowers, kites, and butterflies. We continue to review names of shapes, colors, and names of animals. Even though we do not expect the students to learn the names of the letters of the alphabet or numbers, we do expose the students to letters and numbers every day. We love it when you review what we are teaching in school. More Forest Grove News: There is a parent coffee at school on Wednesday, 4/13. Title I parent information will be given at that time too. Friday, 4/15 is a teacher work day, so there is no school for students. See note on front page with information about our spring pictures on Monday, 4/18. Progress reports will be sent home in the next couple of weeks. Progress reports give you information about your child’s progress on his/her Individual Education Program (IEP) goals.
