GO FOR A WALK THROUGH ONE OF
WORCESTER’S BEAUTIFUL PARKS!
Get some fresh air, clear your mind—even bring a friend! Worcester maintains
more than 1,215 acres of parkland, encompassing 53 parks.
ELM PARK
With 60 acres of land, Elm Park is one of the oldest public parks in the nation and a
beautiful setting for an invigorating walk. It's about a mile around the whole park, &
they usually shovel in the winter so it's accessible even during the colder months. To
extend the walk & cross a few items off of your shopping list, you can take a stroll
down Highland St. and check out stores like Unique Boutique, Saori Worcester, etc.
 Location: In center of Park Avenue, Highland, Russell and Elm Streets. There's
also a playground for kids, tennis courts, basketball, and winter skating! There
are numerous picnic areas and hiking trails, too.

QUINSIGAMOND PARK/LAKE PARK
Take a walk on this park’s 78 acres of land, which features a scenic view of Lake
Quisigamond. Bring a friend and watch the rowers or local ball players.

WACHUSETT RESERVOIR
The 4,135-acre reservoir is just north of Worcester. Start at the Old Church for short
hikes or further north for longer hikes. Enjoy walking trails, bird watching,
snowshoeing, scenic views, and bring a picnic! Note: no dogs allowed.

BOYNTON PARK
Take a walk on the open field and trails, both wide and narrow. There are also lovely
hills with a brook and benches for resting or reading.

CALLAHAN STATE PARK
Enjoy the park’s 820-acre day use area located in Northwest Framingham. Callahan
has seven miles of marked trails and is used for activities including fishing, hiking,
horseback riding and cross-country skiing. Within the park are nearly 100 acres of
open fields. Walk on wooded trails & open fields, and there’s even a pond with a
beach-type area where dogs can play and swim.

WELLS STATE PARK
Wells State Park is a popular 1,400-acre woodland park featuring opportunities for
all types of boating, camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking, horseback riding trails, a
scenic viewing area, swimming, and more than 10 miles of walking trails. Walker
Pond provides a peaceful setting for fishing, canoeing, and swimming. Contact the

GREEN HILL PARK
Worcester's largest municipal park, it offers over 480 acres of land and many
activities & facilities. It contains two ponds, a zoo, a picnic grove, playground, little
league field, golf course, and handball courts.

SPENCER STATE FOREST
Spencer State Forest, a 965-acre area, provides opportunities for fishing, canoeing,
hiking, walking, skiing & snowmobiling. The Mid-state Trail, a long-distance hiking
trail that extends through central Mass to Mt. Watatic, runs close to the park.

BURNCOAT PARK
There are two ponds, little league fields, and a walking path from behind Wawecus
to North Park Way.

GO FOR A HIKE
GO HIKING AT PURGATORY CHASM!
A unique natural landmark, Purgatory Chasm runs for a quarter of a mile between
granite walls rising as high as 70 feet. The Chasm is believed to have its origin in
the sudden release of dammed-up glacial meltwater near the end of the last Ice
Age, approx. 14,000 years ago. Enjoy dramatic scenery, hiking, camping, etc.

CLIMB A MOUNTAIN! GO HIKING AT MOUNT WACHUSETT

WALK THE FREEDOM TRAIL!
The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile red-brick walking trail that leads you to 16 nationally
significant historic sites. You can decide whether to walk the trail yourself or have a
90 minute guided tour with an American History character. (Personally, I’ve done
this trail and recommend beginning with a tour if you’ve never done it before. It was
so interesting, and even though it doesn’t go through the whole trail you can just
continue the trail after the tour –there’s so much more to walk throughout the city!)

BLACKSTONE VALLEY BIKEWAY!
Bikeway covers 48 miles between Worcester, Mass to Providence, RI. The bikeway
serves as an alternate mode of transportation for commuters as well as the region's
premiere recreational bicycle facility, connecting New England's second and third
largest cities serving a population of more than 1 million.

VISIT A LOCAL WILDLIFE SANTCUARY
DRUMLIN FARM WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Stroll along our vegetable fields, amble through the woods, or hike to one of the
highest points in the greater Boston area on our 3 miles of trails. The view from the
top of our drumlin offers a glimpse of both Mt. Monadnok and Mt. Wachusett on a
clear day.

Sanctuaries/
BROADMEADOW BROOK WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
This wildlife sanctuary features hiking trails and a visitor center, located
approximately 20 minutes from Worcester. Explore 400 acres of woods, fields,
streams, and marsh. Look for 78 different species of butterflies, prowl for owls, or
learn to snowshoe. Admission is free for Worcester residents!

WACHUSETT MEADOW WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Twelve miles of trails at Wachusett Meadow include such highlights as a 80-acre
beaver pond alive with beaver, mink, otter, wood ducks, and herons.

ACTIVE STRETCHING CLASSES AT THE STAR TECH HEALING AND LEARNING CENTER
Classes are held every Thursday from 9:30-10:30am at the STAR Tech Healing and

BLUE HILLS ADULT WALKING CLUB
Join this group of adults as they meet on a weekly basis for recreational walks,
which are a great opportunity for social exercise. There is no fee to join. Walks are
normally 2-5 miles, and the terrain can vary from easy to mild to difficult. Walks are
led by a park ranger or a Walking Club volunteer leader. Remember to wear hiking
boots and bring drinking water on hikes!

As a social and running club, the purpose of Not Just Another Running Club is to

THE SEVEN HILLS WHEELMEN
Seven Hills Wheelmen is a recreational group for adults in the Worcester, Mass.,
area who enjoy bicycling and other outdoor activities. Bike rides are for all abilities

Letterboxing is an intriguing “treasure hunt” style outdoor activity. Letterboxers hide small,
weatherproof boxes in publicly-accessible places (like parks) and post clues to finding the box
online. There are roughly 20,000 letterboxes hidden in North America alone. Individual
letterboxes usually contain a log book, an often hand-carved rubber stamp and may contain an
ink pad. Finders make an imprint of the letterbox's stamp on their personal log book, and leave
an imprint of their personal stamp on the letterbox's logbook. Letterboxing is a fun way to
connect with people in your area, and a great family activity.

TOWER HILL BOTANIC GARDEN
A living museum of plants, featuring a 3,000 square-foot Orangerie [greenhouse]
filled with flowering subtropical plants, citrus and palm trees, seasonal displays, and
special events. Distinctive gardens showcasing more than 350 varieties of trees
and shrubs in the Lawn Garden alone, along with evergreens and fruiting plants,
woodland trails, and meadows.

The purpose of this group is to unite runners of color. The group recognizes that
there is a correlation between lack of exercise and some life-style illnesses that
plague people of color, and allows runners of various levels to unite for wellness,
fitness and unity. This WROC is none competitive, but very motivational.

This group of Brazilian Martial Art enthusiasts practices Capoeira, a beautiful and
