My summer volunteer work at Latin America’s busiest and most modern HIV/AIDS Clinic The Clinic • Established in 2000 for the population of the Federal District/Mexico City – A total population of about 20,000,000 – Approx 30% of the estimated 180,000 HIV patients in the country are in the Mexico City Metropolitan area • Is a multi-specialty Clinic, providing: • • • • • Internal Medicine OB-GYN Psychiatry Dermatology Etc. Focus on Prevention • • • • Educational materials/ Seminars Condoms: About 1,000,000/year Tests: around 30,000 / year Treatment for thousands of regular patients, inmates, sex workers, and victims of sexual violence.
