Reading/Language Arts We have really been working on becoming great thinkers while we read. As you read with your students pause and talk to them about what you have just read. It is amazing to hear what they are thinking about! If they are wondering about something, that would be a great time to show them how to find the information either by doing research in another book, on the internet, or visit an exhibit. They more they think, the more they wonder, and that will help them enjoy learning more. We have certain topics we have to touch on at school, but we do a lot of our research based on what they want to learn. Doing research on their favorite topics at home, is a way to get them reading more. This could be a great way to incorporate their reading at home with our Open Mic Fridays! Doing research and creating a report of their own to read to the class would be a wonderful way for them to feel proud and have ownership in their learning! Math: We are diving into math! This month we will be talking more about double digit addition with regrouping. I know this is taught slightly different then the way you and I probably learned it growing up, so please try to take a look at the family letter that will be going home soon that shows how to do it. If you Science: Our students really still have Wow! questions, please feel free have been enjoying science! We had ask! pumpkinolog and a couple of visitors from the zoo come out for our class. Towards the end of the month we will be starting our solids and liquids unit. Homework Spelling: Prove it is a fun way to check to see if your student really understands the spelling patterns. If you can spell cat, then you can spell…bat. Math: Written homework has begun. We have found it easier to have the students tear out their homework for the week and staple it together. This homework is due on Friday Reading: We are doing better on remembering to read at night. Reading goal for November is 300 minutes! At the end of the month, I will add up the minutes in their agenda. If they reach their goal, they will get a certificate for a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.
