Résumés and transcripts will be collected through Symplicity beginning April 8, 2016. The closing date for collection is April 14, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Judicial Only 2. The law school will send these documents, on your behalf, to those judges that it has a relationship with each semester before the end of the month of April. Judges who participate in the program will make the selections, interview (in person and by telephone in some cases) and extend offers. While we advise the judges of our internal deadline, their schedules vary with respect to when they will begin the selection process. (Our application deadline for the fall is July 15, 2016) 3. If you are extended an offer, the expectation, (assuming no conflicts of interest,) is that you will accept the first offer received and decline other interviews for judicial field placements during the relevant semester that may be pending. Students must honor this commitment. 4. Students working in chambers for a state court judge (Circuit Court of Cook County) will need to disclose whether they also will be working or intend to work in any other legal capacity to the judge and the law school. Students may not work in other legal capacity while working as an extern for a state court judge. This is a directive from the Office of the Chief Judge for the Circuit Court of Cook County. Conflicts should be disclosed in all cases with prospective supervisors. Certain federal court district court and magistrate judges may also have similar policies in place. It is important that you disclose this information. Students may accept a position with a law school faculty member as a research assistant or as a tutor. 5. THERE WILL BE A SEPARATE COLLECTION FOR THE Spring 2017 SEMESTER. 6. The instructions for the collection of student résumés and transcripts is attached as Exhibit A to this document. _______________________ Page 1 of 14 FALL 2016 EXTERNSHIPS/INTENSIVE FIELD PLACEMENTS FAST FACTS Application Process for all other Extern Intensive Field Placements 7. Please review the website and Law School Announcements for opportunities that may become available with judges independent of this process. Students who have a relationship with a judge may also apply directly to that judge or through that specific court’s internal procedures. Please review the website for the court that you are considering as a possible externship site. 8. It is critical that students review the list of approved sites and law school announcements regularly. Information regarding the site and the process for application is listed there. In the majority of cases, students apply directly to the approved site of their choice. There are only a few exceptions. One important one is the application process for Cook County. Students interested in serving as an extern at the following sites apply directly to Professor Josie M. This does not apply to the Office of the Cook County State’s Attorney or Law Offices of the Public Defender. _ ______________________ Application 9. We do not know the time frame judges will use in interviewing and extending offers nor can we guarantee your choice of placement. If you are extended an offer, it is expected that you will accept the offer unless conflicts exist. 3).
