SUMMER EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY The Chicago Regional Office of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) is seeking a volunteer summer intern interested in economic development programs and the legal issues that affect federal grants administration. Under the direction of Regional Counsel, interns can expect to gain experience in interpreting and applying federal laws and regulations; properly documenting real property transactions and local government, not-for-profit, and university decisions relative to federal grants; and reviewing and commenting on administrative records. Responsibilities • Research and analyze legal issues • Draft and review basic agreements • Create and update legal databases • Other duties as assigned Requirements Selections will be made based on each candidate’s background including a demonstrated commitment to public service, academic achievement, past employment, and extracurricular activities that relate to the work of EDA or that demonstrate excellence in legal writing or argument. We are particularly interested in individuals who think creatively and take initiative. Candidates must be U.S. citizens who are currently attending law school. Bar passage is not required. Candidates will be expected to commit to at least 16 hours per week during the summer recess. This is an unpaid externship. Externship credit may be available through a candidate’s law school.
