Generation Luminaires™ (NGL) Outdoor Awards
New LED Illuminating Handrail System Provides Unmatched Energy Efficiency and Light Uniformity
Anaheim, CA, February 26, 2014 – Intense Lighting, Inc. (www.IntenseLighting.com), a manufacturer of
LED specifications grade lighting solutions, is pleased to announce that its V-RAIL IVR15 a true 1.5” LED
illuminating handrail system is a recognized winner in the 2013 Next Generation Luminaires™ (NGL)
Outdoor Awards, in the Pedestrian / Walkway lighting category.
The sleek V-RAIL IVR15 is a high performance system designed to illuminate stairways, ramps and
walkways while also acting as a handrail or guardrail. It consumes 45% less energy and delivers more
than double the average foot candles of comparable products.
NGL judges said that the system was a “unique product with smooth distribution” and commented on its
“great color – great light”. One of the features cited by the judging committee was the performance of
the lenses which prevents strobing, a problem recognized in early generation LED handrails by others.
It is the first time that the company has been recognized in the Outdoor portion of the competition,
having previously won awards in the Indoor section for the ORBIS LED Track Luminaire (2013), and other
products in prior years.
The Next Generation Luminaires™ (NGL) Solid State Lighting (SSL) Design Competition is sponsored by
the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Illuminating Engineering Society, and the International
Association of Lighting Designers. The NGL competition was launched in 2008 to promote excellence in
the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for general illumination in commercial lighting applications.
The idea is to make it easier for lighting designers and specifiers to find LED lighting products that are
worthy of specification. That means NGL-recognized products have to measure up on many fronts. The
judges care about suitability and quality, not just energy-efficiency. “This is not just a beauty contest,”
said DOE Solid-State Lighting Program Manager Jim Brodrick. “The winners also have to perform well.”
