I. Canvas – Update (Mario Guerra)
Mario Guerra gave an overview of the Blackboard and Canvas transition for the
University of Austin. He went over the timeline of the process. He also mentioned all
of the resources available for canvas users, such as office hours, workshops, and
24/7 support by Instructure.
Q: How does staff use Canvas?
A: They share files, survey staff, and use it as a place for resources for student
workers.
Q. And how is this different from Box?
A. If staff are using it strictly file sharing, then we encourage them to use Canvas.
We are having those conversations.
Q. How are you communicating that question to the staff?
A. We are posting these in Blackboard and next year, we will be communicating
with campus.
Q. What’s the communication tactic for the next 15% and letting the staff in on this
as well?
A. There are many resources online and peer discussion is pivotal as well. TSCs are
in almost every college as a contact on Canvas.
Angela Newell: First, consider it for staff training LMS. Second, the communication
in Canvas is fantastic. We could learn a lot from this project to use in ASMP.
Q. How different is Blackboard from Canvas?
A. Completely different.
Q. Can you describe DestinyOne?
A. It is a registration system for extended campus activities. It is a way to market
courses, take payment, send information, and distribute certificates. It’s like a portal.
II. ITS Applications Service Plan – Update (Julienne VanDerZiel)
Julienne VanDerZiel presented the list of specific services and projects for the next
year. She also went through the Service Plan for 2014-2015.
III. Web Central – Update (Julienne VanDerZiel)
Julienne gave an update on the combined project with ITS system and ITS
applications. It is an effort to design and create UT Web to replace web central. It is
up and running. It is much more robust and secure, and built specifically for the
need of UT faculty and staff.
IV. ASMP Steering Committee – Update (Renee Wallace)
Renee Wallace presented a document with the roles and members of the ASMP
steering committee. BSC will delegate authority to ASMP.
Q. How will certain topics be passed down to BSC?
A. It would go to the ASMP Steering Committee and there will be a decision whether
or not to bring it to BSC. If it’s a broad topic, it’ll be opened up to BSC. BSC will
receive monthly briefings from ASMP Steering Committee.
