III. Canvas - Update (Mario Guerra)
IV. Staff Training Learning Management System - Update (Rich Janes)
TxClass is among 5-6 mainframe-based training/certification/performance applications that may be replaced
with the ASMP Staff Training Learning Management System (LMS) purchase. The purchase should also
address many of the unmet needs expressed in the requirements document created as part of the ERP
selection process.
We are currently addressing the questions raised within ASMP surrounding the business area’s
recommendation of Cornerstone. A more detailed review is being planned between Cornerstone and Destiny
One/Canvas. We intend to start this work as soon as possible in November and are targeting final selection
of an LMS by March 2015.
The LMS must be in place by July 2015 to give the ASMP Enterprise Readiness group enough
preparation time to begin end user Workday training in September 2015. As capacity allows, the goal is
to expand LMS access in August to other departments replacing legacy systems ahead of a full launch
with Workday HCM in January 2016.
Canvas Learning Management System – Update
Overview
Canvas is a modern, cloud-hosted Learning Management System (LMS) from Instructure, which
was selected to replace Blackboard by Fall 2015. Several peer institutions have recently
adopted Canvas including UC Berkeley, the University of Washington and Indiana University.
Background
After a comprehensive evaluation led collaboratively by the Center for Teaching & Learning and
Information Technology Services, Canvas was selected in June 2013 to replace Blackboard by a
steering committee comprised of faculty, students, and staff. The Strategic IT Accountability
Board (SITAB) subsequently endorsed this recommendation in July 2013.
Migration Update
Upon selection, a two-year migration plan was created that included an incremental approach
for faculty adoption.
